algae sampling

September 13 sampling results for Mirocystin toxin at C1 (Wulfy Beach) shows levels of 1.36 and C2 ( North Lake resort) 1.00. People and pets should avoid drinking untreated water. Avoid areas of obvious alge blooms. The toxin concentration can very a great deal around the lake.

Hi Mike, Alan and Bryan,
Oregon Environmental Council just published a storymap looking at harmful algae across Oregon, specifically the causes and context around recurring blooms in 8 bodies of water. I'm writing to give you a heads up that we included Tenmile Lakes based on DEQ's 2011 Harmful Algal Blooms Strategy, and I'd love for this to be a springboard for a conversation about what you see as the areas of greatest need based on your experience with algae and opportunities for targeted state investments to help preserve clean water on the South Coast.

Our goal in highlighting Tenmile Lakes was not to be critical of any of the efforts of Lakeside and it's watershed partners. Instead, our hope is to build broader public interest and awareness around the diversity of algae issues in Oregon, and to encourage support for investments in public health and healthy watersheds - like state programs for septic system repairs.

You can check out the storymap here: https://oeconline.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapJournal/index.html?appid=5aacb7b363684c90945d0c4e8e77964a

Please feel free to share this with anyone that might find it interesting or helpful in their outreach or communications efforts. We hope it's something you can build on to highlight the great restoration work happening in your community as a key part of the solution to these challenges.

I'm happy to talk more about OEC's work on statewide water issues and answer any questions about how we put this storymap together.

Thanks for your time.

Large item pickup

This last weekend volunteers from TLA pushed a barge around Tenmile Lake and collected large item trash including wood stove, electric stoves and refrigerator and various other junk and delivered them to Ken &Julie Robbers dump trailor for dump run.  We had enough that it required 2 runs to the dump.  Thanks to Dennis Blume, the Robbers, John Reiss  for their help without which it would have been impossible.

911

It has been brought to our attention by the Fire Dept. that it is important to notify the person who answers the call you location and especially if you ar boat access only.  This could save an precious amout of time if the emergency department knows what to send and how to get there.  A recent incident brought this to the forfront.
